Why You Need an Implementation Plan

Goal implementation is an iterative process. The work continues even when you have reached one of your goals. In some cases, your original goals will need to be adapted to changes within your company. An implementation plan will help you modify plans where necessary and achieve new ones. Below we will discuss guidelines that you can follow to precisely implement your company goals.

Implementation Guidelines

The following three Ps will guide you through implementing your goals to lead your firm to success.

Planning

There is a common expression that says “By failing to plan, you are planning to fail.” If you don’t plan, you might be inadequately prepared, face unexpected problems, and miss deadlines; and as a result, your reputation could be at stake. Planning is imperative to goal implementation. It helps you lay out the next steps for yourself and your team. When your goal implementation plan is outlined clearly, there is little room for stress, disorganization, and feeling overwhelmed. Figure out what tasks need to happen, when they need to happen, and who can make them happen. Understanding the value of planning means realizing that results won’t always be immediate, instead, planning will be beneficial in the long run.

One way to get ahead of your tasks is by spending at least 15 minutes planning your next day. This way, you will wake up with a clear sense of what needs to be done and by the end of the day, you will feel like you have accomplished what you needed to. The first step is to write everything down and not keep anything in your head. Put it all down onto a piece of paper, an Excel spreadsheet— whatever works best for you. Additionally, make sure to communicate with your leadership team, as they can offer better insight on timelines and clarification on how their teams can help you achieve these goals.

Prioritizing

A leader’s primary challenge is to solve problems creatively. The more responsibility you carry, the more you have on your plate. The ability to juggle multiple high-priority projects successfully is something every successful leader must learn how to do. As the list of tasks grows, you can agonize or organize. Here is a simple but effective way to classify tasks that can help you quickly prioritize them at any given moment. The goal is to determine how important and urgent the task is. Ineffective leaders jump onto urgent tasks without thinking. Effective leaders weigh both factors for each task and act accordingly.

Here’s how:

  • High Importance/High Urgency: Tackle these tasks first.
  • High Importance/Low Urgency: Set deadlines for completion and fit these tasks into your daily routine.
  • Low Importance/High Urgency: Find quick, efficient ways to get these tasks done with minimal, personal involvement and time. If possible, delegate them.
  • Low Importance/Low Urgency: If these tasks can be eliminated, then get rid of them. If they can be delegated, then find someone to do them. If you must do them, then schedule a one-hour block every week to chip away at them, but never schedule them during your prime time.

Performing

Once you have planned and prioritized, you have to perform. Execution is key for goal implementation. Try to concentrate on one task at a time until it is 100% complete, as this will reduce time lost as well as boosting morale. By eliminating distractions and diversions, you will increase your productivity, and both the quality and the quantity of your work. Completing smaller tasks is a concrete way to ensure that your overarching goals are met. Set the precedence for your team to do the same and you will quickly achieve your company goals and watch your business grow at an exponential rate.
